Mulled Wine Poached Pears

Looking for an alternative option to your usual Christmas pudding this year? We’ve got just the thing! Our mulled pears are perfect for the festive season and super easy to make. All you need is as followed:


  • 1 Bottle of robust red wine
  • 500ml water
  • 200ml Orange Juice
  • 125g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 6 Cloves
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 2 Chunks Stem Ginger
  • Zest of 1 Unwaxed Lemon
  • 6 Firm Pears

Step 1

Put all the ingredients except the pears into a heavy bottom saucepan and bring to the boil – simmer for 10 minutes

Step 2

Peel and cut the bottoms off the pears (allowing them to stand upright)

Step 3

Add the pears and bring back to a gentle simmer

Step 4

Poach for around 30 mins – until soft, turning occasionally

Step 5

Remove the pears, strain the poaching liquid and add back to the heat to reduce by half until syrupy

Step 6

To serve, sit the pears upright and cover with the poaching syrup
